PharmaDoctor launches free measles consultation tool and PGD
PharmaDoctor is offering a free electronic tool and patient group direction (PGD) to help pharmacists tackle the spread of measles.
The Measles Clinical Support Package guides pharmacists through each step of a patient consultation and then determines their eligibility for the vaccine.
The online platform – which usually costs £250 – also includes a 12-month integrated PGD to authorise pharmacists to administer the vaccination, and comes with digital marketing support to help increase vaccine uptake.
The number of confirmed cases of measles in England grew nearly four-fold last year – from 259 in 2017, to 966 in 2018 – according to Public Health England.
“PharmaDoctor hopes that our offer to pharmacies will support them to communicate the risks of measles to those who may not have received the MMR vaccine, then encourage them to take up the offer of vaccination,” PharmaDoctor medical director Dr Colin Davidson said.
“Our pharmacy partners… are perfectly placed to help all our colleagues in primary care and public health stop the further spread of measles.”
