Intrapharm Laboratories has launched sachets of liquid lactulose to treat constipation.

The ready-to-use Lactulose Sachets launched last month as an alternative to traditional bottled treatments. The sachets addressed problems such as waste, storage and the risk of infection from contamination, waste and storage, the manufacturer said.

It is estimated that 2.5 million people suffer from constipation in the UK, said Intrapharm, making it “one of the most common gastrointestinal conditions found in the community”.

Each 15ml sachet contains 10g of lactulose liquid that does not have to be reconstituted. A pack of 10 lactulose sachets has an NHS list price of £2.50.
