Revealed: Locations of two more Lloydspharmacies scheduled to close

C+D has learned the locations of two further Lloydspharmacy branches scheduled for closure – in Somerset and Shropshire.

An employee of a branch on Church Street in Cheddar, Somerset – who wished to remain anonymous – told C+D the pharmacy would close on February 16.

C+D was alerted to the closure of another Lloydspharmacy – at 15a Market Square, Wellington, Shropshire – after a patient tweeted a picture of a closing sign on its door.

Lloydspharmacy’s parent company Celesio UK said it is unable to comment on "individual cases".

The two pharmacies are part of the 190 “commercially unviable” Lloydspharmacy branches in England where parent company Celesio UK will cease trading. C+D has now confirmed the location of 26 of these pharmacies; the multiple would not confirm the remaining 164 branches.

Rural pharmacies closing causes a “bigger tsunami”

Somerset local pharmaceutical committee (LPC) chief executive Michael Lennox told C+D yesterday (January 18) that the closure of the Cheddar branch is "regrettable" and will add further pressure to the primary care system.

"A closure of a pharmacy in a rural area has a much bigger tsunami than if one closes in a high street where you've got two others up and down the street," Mr Lennox said.

LPCs in south-west England are "very keenly watching out" for rural pharmacy closures, he added.

Charity “concerned about effects”

Sara Nelson, a member of the charity Healthwatch Somerset, told C+D the organisation is sorry to hear that the Lloydspharmacy in Cheddar is closing and is "concerned about any effects that this may have on the local community".

Healthwatch Somerset would “welcome feedback” from locals about any issues caused by the closure, which it will then share anonymously with commissioners, Dr Nelson said.

Where else will Lloydspharmacy cease trading?

You can use C+D's map to view the location of each of the 26 Lloydspharmacy branches so far confirmed for closure or sale.

Branches confirmed for closure are marked in purple, while Lloydspharmacies up for sale are marked in blue. The branches that have been sold are marked in orange.

This map is live, and will be updated as C+D confirms the locations of further affected Lloydspharmacy branches.
