Rob Darracott has encouraged pharmacists to feel confident that when medicines use reviews (MURs) are done properly, they work for patients.

The Pharmacy Voice chief executive highlighted that while some people might question the value of MURs following negative media coverage, there are a group of patients – such as those with respiratory conditions – who benefit from the service.

"We should feel confident that done right, they work," Mr Darracott told C+D in an exclusive interview yesterday (June 13).

“Clearly MURs will be considered as part of the government's clinical services review and some of the publicity over recent weeks means we have got some things to think about,” Mr Darracott said.

Getting pharmacists engaged

After 11 years as part of the pharmacy contract, some pharmacists are still not engaged with the MUR service, Mr Darracott said. He also questioned whether the sector was doing enough to make sure it was providing services "of a proven quality". 

"Are we doing as much as we can to make sure people [deliver services] effectively," he asked.
