The RPS has declined to comment on the case of the English Pharmacy Board member faced with expulsion over their conduct.

The RPS statement follows calls from pharmacists for openness and transparency on the C+D website, urging the leadership body to show it had moved away from the "old Lambeth culture".

On Tuesday, C+D exclusively revealed that a member of the English Pharmacy Board currently faces expulsion from their position and referral to the GPhC, after a "disagreement over the content of the email and the propriety of language used".

Asked to give further details of the case, RPS head of corporate communications Neal Patel declined to comment, or give the reasons behind his decision.

"We will not be commenting," Mr Patel told C+D.

The lack of statement from the RPS will not be welcomed by pharmacist Mark Walker, who warned the RPS of behaving "like a Soviet era secret police state".

Former RPSGB Council member Dorothy Drury also called for frank, open discussions between the RPS and its almost 30,000 members.

"I think some people need to know what open and transparent really means," Ms Drury added.
