Storm Dennis’s ‘devastating impact’ forces Boots branch to close

A Boots branch in Pontypridd, south Wales has been forced to close after Storm Dennis caused 'devastating' flooding and landslides over the weekend.

The pharmacy has been closed since Sunday (February 16), and no members of staff were at the branch when the flooding started, a Boots spokesperson told C+D today (February 18).

Boots is “working with the local health board and other local pharmacies so that customers can still get their prescriptions”, the spokesperson said.

Nearby Boots stores are accessible in Caerphilly, Tonypandy, and Talbot Green, they added.

Pharmacy to reopen “as soon as possible”

“We’re very proud of the way our store team is dealing with the situation and we’re doing all we can to reopen our pharmacy as soon as possible,” the spokesperson said.

The pharmacy is located on Taff Street in Pontypridd, a town in county borough Rhondda Cynon Taf. This area experienced the “most severe impact” of the storm and was hit by “multiple floods and landslides”, according to the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service.

South Wales Police declared Storm Dennis a “major incident” last week (Sunday 16), following the “serious disruption caused by adverse weather across the south Wales region”.

Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough has made £1 million available to support the repairs and investment works required across the county, following the “devastating impact” of the weather.

Council leader Andrew Morgan said: “Our attention will now turn to recovery, supporting businesses and residents across the county, along with repairing the damage caused by this major weather incident.”
