Superdrug's 'fun' environment behind highest June 2018 exam pass rate

Superdrug has claimed its “fun and engaging” environment is responsible for the multiple’s pre-reg trainees securing the highest first-time pass rate in last summer's exam.

Ninety-seven percent of Superdrug’s candidates passed the June 2018 registration exam, according to General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) data of companies who had trained 13 or more candidates, published on Monday (January 14).

Paydens and Kamsons followed Superdrug, achieving pass rates of 89% and 86% respectively.

Superdrug, Kamsons and Cohens were the only three providers to have higher pass rates in June 2018 than in June 2017.

The pass rates of training providers for the exam varied by 33 percentage points, with 64%* of The Hub Pharmacy’s candidates passing.

Superdrug’s “real-life scenarios”

Superdrug superintendent Lucy Morton-Channon told C+D: “We evolve our pre-reg programme based on feedback from trainees, the GPhC and our pharmacists.

“By using real-life scenarios, we equip our pre-registration pharmacists with the tools to not just pass the exam, but also to work as capable pharmacists on day one of registration,” Ms Morton-Channon said.

The multiple had the second-highest pass rate in the June 2017 exam, when 91% of its candidates passed.
