Vote now for these 9 stories of pharmacists going ‘above and beyond’
C+D readers can now choose their favourite story of a pharmacy professional going the extra mile for their patients.
For the third year running, the C+D Above and Beyond Award, sponsored by Accord, gives readers a chance to vote for their winner themselves, celebrating pharmacists and pharmacy staff going “above and beyond” for their patients, their team and for the sector.
C+D editor Beth Kennedy said: “The Above and Beyond Award is a chance to recognise those who have truly gone beyond the call of duty in the name of patient care.
“These extraordinary individuals give more proof, if any was needed, of community pharmacy's irreplaceable role in looking after the nation's health.”
Readers have until Monday, August 24 to vote for one of the nine stories listed below. The winner will be announced at the C+D Awards ceremony in London on December 14.
- The pharmacist who saved a patient with CPR
- The manager who opened a pharmacy after it had been petrol-bombed
- The pharmacist who handled a heart attack
- The pharmacist who delivered medicine during a crisis
- The pharmacist who saved a patient in anaphylactic shock
- The pharmacist who promotes mental health at a soup kitchen
- The pharmacist who spotted a patient with a dangerous blood sugar level
- The pharmacy assistant who helped a young mother with a bleeding cyst
- The pharmacy worker who prevented a patient suicide
Last year’s Above and Beyond Award was won by pharmacist Hassan Riaz. He was praised by readers for his contribution to the community – which saw him helping save the life of a patient with sepsis – during his three years at Horne Street Pharmacy in Halifax, Yorkshire.
Due to COVID-19, the C+D Awards ceremony was postponed to December 14. Despite the challenges faced during the pandemic, pharmacy teams are still keen to celebrate their hard work.
Book your tickets to join us as we pay tribute to pharmacy professionals at the InterContinental O2 Hotel in London on December 14.
