The service launched in March in 57 of the company’s “health clinics” across England, Wales and Scotland, Superdrug told C+D (see map below).

Superdrug's nurses and "some pharmacists" administer the vaccine in two doses, costing £55 each, to be given at least four weeks apart, the multiple explained. It recommends patients have the two doses at least two weeks before travelling.

The service is available to patients aged 18 and over who have not been fully vaccinated, it added.

The MMR vaccination is available free for children aged four months to three years as part of the NHS childhood immunisation programme, and for older children and adults who need to be protected against MMR, or in the event of a measles outbreak.

The NHS recommends anyone travelling to an area known to have had outbreaks of MMR should receive the vaccine before they travel.

Superdrug said its service “offers an alternative to the NHS, located within [the] health clinics on the high street, but is not intended to replace the NHS service”.

“As a company that provides a travel health service, we want to offer as many vaccinations as our patients may require,” it said. “Patients may prefer to have all travel-related vaccines in one place for convenience.”

Uptake of the service has been “strong” so far, Superdrug added.
