Women not talking about intimate health

More than half of pharmacy staff think women may be “suffering in silence” when it comes to their intimate health concerns, a Bayer Healthcare survey has revealed.

The manufacturer, which produces the Canesten range of vaginal infection treatments, said 51% of 250 pharmacy staff – surveyed by CIG Research on its behalf last month – think women are too embarrassed to talk about their problems.

In October, Bayer began a two-month £1.2 million TV campaign to promote its Canesbalance gel for bacterial vaginosis, which it launched in July and claimed can “restore the vagina’s natural pH balance”.

The animated advert also refers to Canestest, which Bayer claimed is the UK’s first self-test swab for common vaginal infections.

A pack of seven 5ml Canesbalance gels retails for £12.99; one Canestest is £9.99.
