Martindale launches ready-to-use hypotension treatment

Martindale Pharma has launched its hypotension treatment in a new strength.

The selective vasopressor drug phenylephrine, used for the treatment of hypotension associated with anaesthesia, is now available in a ready-to-use 10ml ampoule at a strength of 0.1mg/ml, the manufacturer said.

The pharmacy-only drug, which has an NHS list price of £40 for a pack of 10 ampules, was previously available only in 1ml ampoules of 10mg/ml solution, which must be diluted prior to use.

The new strength can be given as an intravenous bolus injection or as a continuous infusion without the need for dilution, Martindale Pharma said.

This “provides healthcare professionals with a much-needed replacement to the concentrated alternative”, it added.

The company’s chief marketing officer, Michael Clark, said the new product’s “novel presentation” allows for “more accurate dose dispensing, resulting in both time and cost savings for the NHS”.
