Sports nutrition specialist Sport‑ph has bought nutrition brand The Protein Works for an undisclosed fee.

The acquisition last month is the second in a year for the company, following its purchase of supplement manufacturer PhD Nutrition in December last year, and is a further step towards its goal of creating a “pan-European sports nutrition group”, the company said.

The Protein Works’ three founders will become shareholders and board members of Sport-ph as part of the deal, it said. Mark Coxhead, one of the founders, said he is “thrilled” by the move, adding that it will “greatly benefit” the company’s customers.

Sport-ph’s CEO Seb Mullin said the purchase will allow his organisation to “accelerate our vision for growth”, and pledged to preserve the “entrepreneurial passion” of The Protein Works as an independent brand.
