After a few days of relaxing in New York City it was time for me to head back to Washington DC to begin the second week of filming on The Pharmacist film.
Our first scene was scheduled to begin at 9am on Saturday, however while London was basking in the 30°C heat, McLean, Virginia had an outbreak of rain.
As we were worried about our camera we couldn't make a start to filming, and the script called for a bright sunny day. We had to do the best we couldm and the team did a good job in extremely challenging circumstances.
As we rolled out scene after scene, there were some incredible performances from the actors. There were great performances for the roles of Hal (Matthew Gulbranson) and Mr Jarvis (Michael Gable). The duo complimented each other really well.
There was also a magnificent performance from April (Allison Howard), an innocent dispenser. Most of all I loved the marvellous acting from Mary Suib who played Ms Ringleberg. Ms Ringleberg is an elderly customer who has problems with the pharmaceutical vending machine when it is installed in the pharmacy in the film. You will have to watch the film to see how the problem is resolved.
On Sunday night the filming was coming to an end, and as the last scene was shot a sense of relief, excitement and emotion filled the air.
The team all gathered together and each and every one of us said farewell to each other. We all shook hands and swapped emails.
I would like to thank every member of the team for making me feel so welcome.
Mike Cassidy (writer/producer) thanked me for everything that I had done with the script and the production of the film. I felt very overwhelmed.
During the filming Mike and I spoke about writing a TV pilot together, which we will most definitely do together next year. Once the film is edited we plan to show it in many festivals in the United States. I will also attempt to get the film into festivals in the UK, including Raindance. It will be very difficult, but the quality of the film will most definitely show once they receive our submission. The idea is very fresh and unique and I truly believe there is a market out there for this type of comedy.
We believe that with the right assistance the show could be a massive success. We most certainly have the team for it.
Finally, our profession has a voice in the film industry.
