Each vaccination costs £65, meaning a course consisting of two jabs – given six weeks apart by pharmacists – has a total cost of £130, Boots announced today (June 22).

The private service is aimed at patients aged one to 65 who wish to get vaccinated outside the NHS, Boots said.

Each consultation and vaccination takes around 20 minutes, it added.

Director of pharmacy services Asif Aziz said: “The introduction of this service highlights the enhanced role that community pharmacies can play in supporting those services offered by the NHS and GPs, as well as the excellent clinical skills our pharmacists offer to support patients’ health.”

“This is a fantastic example of where we are developing our pharmacy services offer in the UK,” he added.

According to the NHS, nine out of 10 children, or three quarters of children and adults, develop chickenpox immunity after one jab.

Last year, Superdrug launched a private chickenpox vaccine across 57 stores, also at £65 per jab.
