Shortage protocol for Salazopyrin EN-Tabs 500mg extended to next week
The Department of Health and Social Care (DH) has extended the SSP for Salazopyrin EN-Tabs 500mg, due to ongoing shortages of the product.
Under the serious shortage protocol (SSP) for Salazopyrin EN-Tabs 500mg, which was originally issued in October, pharmacy teams may supply generic sulfasalazine 500mg gastro-resistant tablets in place of Salazopyrin EN-Tabs 500mg.
The SSP was previously expected to expire on February 26, but has been extended until March 8, according to the NHS Business Services Authority alert.
“Reimbursement is for the medicine supplied in accordance with the SSP and not the originally prescribed medicine,” the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee (PSNC) advised.
