RPS restructure: Robbie Turner to leave role at the end of March

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) director of pharmacy and membership experience has “decided to leave” his role at the end of this month, the organisation has announced.

Robbie Turner's last day on the RPS's executive team will be on March 31, the organisation announced yesterday (March 24).

It comes after the RPS announced that it was “working on a proposal” that could see a restructure at executive level, with “two roles... at potential risk of redundancy” earlier this month (March 3). It would not confirm at the time which roles could be affected.

The RPS could not “go into the specifics of the process... due to its confidential nature” but it assured that “a fair, reasonable and confidential consultation process” would be adhered to, it said at the time.

In an update published the next day, RPS president Claire Anderson said: “I deeply regret seeing so much speculation in the public domain about a proposed change to the executive team when no decision has yet been made and feel for those involved.”

The proposal “is not about cost savings” but is instead an organisational decision on operational matters, she added at the time.

“Excellent work”

RPS chief executive Paul Bennet wished Mr Turner “all the best for the future” and thanked him for his “excellent work” since he joined the organisation in 2017.

“Once any changes to the executive team are agreed, you have my full commitment that we will update everyone on how any changes to our structure enable us to deliver our Royal Charter obligations and our five-year strategy,” he added.

Earlier this month (March 18), the RPS came under fire after it was revealed that it had decided not to renew its membership of the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) this year, despite having helped to found the organisation in 1912.

FIP wrote it was “regretful” the RPS had chosen leave the global representative body “at a time when global solidarity on issues that affect us all”.

Issues such as “pharmacy workforce capacity, antimicrobial resistance, access to medicines and pharmaceutical care, and sustainability” are affecting sector professionals everywhere, FIP said at the time.
