Dundee pharmacy for sale due to ‘shortage of pharmacists’ secures buyer
A community pharmacy in Dundee, Scotland has been snapped up by a pharmacy chain after it was put up for sale due to “a shortage of pharmacists in the area”, broker Christie & Co has announced.
St Mary’s Pharmacy was acquired by Davidsons Chemists, which with this addition brings the total of its branches across Scotland to 51.

The pharmacy was primarily run by locum pharmacists and dispenses around 4,500 NHS items per month, according to the broker.
Former owners John Ross Chemists bought St Mary’s Pharmacy in 2010. The company also recently sold its Lossiemouth Pharmacy in Lossiemouth, Morayshire, Christie & Co announced last week (November 9).
Plans for further expansion
Commenting on the acquisition, Davidsons Chemists managing director Allan Gordon said the company plans to continue to expand the chain and has “a medium-term target of 60 pharmacies”.
“I am delighted to acquire this pharmacy for Davidsons Chemists,” he added.

Karl Clezy, a director at Christie & Co, said that the broker received three offers for this business, “despite staffing issues, particularly in this part of Scotland”.
“This purchase for Davidsons Chemist made sense as they also operate several other pharmacies in the Dundee area,” he added.
St Mary’s Pharmacy was sold for an undisclosed price.
