Months after the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) issued a medical supply notice for Permethrin products, Derbac M provides an effective, alternative treatment option at a time where there is limited availability of other treatments in the UK available. 

Scabies is highly contagious through skin-to-skin contact, causing skin sores and can lead to more serious complications such as septicaemia, heart disease and kidney problems. The World Health Organisation (WHO) reports that it is believed at any one time an estimated 200 million people are infected globally.  It’s important that Scabies is treated quickly to prevent its spread. It is estimated that one in 50 long-term care facilities will experience an outbreak each year.

In September 2023, a medical supply notification from the DHSC was issued for Permethrin products, highlighting its limited supply until further notice. At the time, the notification also highlighted that alternatives to Malathion liquid were unavailable. 

“At a time where there are limited treatment options available and demand is expected to increase, we are pleased to be able to bring Derbac M back to the market, providing an alternative treatment option to help those suffering from scabies, headlice and pubic lice,” said senior product manager Samantha Ross.

Derbac M is a P line insecticide liquid medicine used to treat infestations caused by Scabies mites, head lice and pubic lice.

It kills the parasites and their eggs, treatment must be repeated seven days post treatment to ensure any remaining lice which may have hatched since first treatment are killed. Apply to the hair or body, once a week.
