Contractor Special Podcast: Training, time, and pharmacy technicians

"I'm really, really, scared. I don't want to give the wrong information and I don't want to give the wrong product. And I don't know if I'm ever going to know enough to do it."

"I think hiring a pharmacy technician is the best thing any pharmacy can do"

How are pharmacists squeezing in all the training they have to do themselves, as well as their staff?

The first of a series of podcasts covering issues that affect C+D readers is a Contractor Special, focusing on training staff and dealing with the challenges that come with it.

It also explores the opportunities contractors can unlock with training, not least when it comes to pharmacy technicians.

"I love a pharmacy technician," says C+D clinical managing editor Nana Ofori-Atta. "I think hiring a pharmacy technician is the best thing any pharmacy can do."

C+D's special guest, Tania Meagher, who has spent 30 years as a pharmacist and is head of pharmacy and superintendent at Paydens, agrees but says they need all the training they can get.

She says one trainee told her: "I'm really, really, scared. I don't want to give patients the wrong information and I don't want to give them the wrong product. And I don't know if I'm ever going to know enough to do it."
