Asda Pharmacy offers £5 ‘reward’ for those booking private MenB jab

The multiple has launched the rewards scheme alongside its delivery of the one-off NHS MenB vaccination service.

Asda is also delivering NHS catch-up vaccinations to eligible young people

Asda is offering a £5 “reward” to those who purchase a private Meningitis B (MenB) vaccination at one of their pharmacies, it announced yesterday.

The multiple said that alongside delivering the one-off NHS MenB vaccination service to eligible patients in Year 13 and those due to begin their first year of university, it will also be providing the vaccine privately to those not eligible under the national programme.

Customers who purchase a private vaccination from an Asda pharmacy between July 20 and August 31 will receive £5 in their Asda Rewards Cashpot, it added.

Asda currently charges £179.76 for a full course – two doses – of the MenB vaccine, having previously offered both doses for £150 between March 19 and 30 April 30 in response to the outbreak in Kent earlier this year.

Meningitis Now chief executive Dr Tom Nutt said the charity “warmly welcomes” Asda’s support in administering the NHS MenB vaccine and “helping more young people protect themselves against this devastating disease”.

He added that having both the NHS programme and the private MenB vaccine available “at a major supermarket pharmacy like Asda plays an important role in reducing the devastating impact that meningitis can have on individuals, families and communities”.

It comes after the one-off pharmacy MenB vaccination service launched yesterday amid concerns that pharmacies have not been properly supported in the rollout.

And it follows Asda introducing a “judgement-free” disposal scheme for unregulated weight loss jabs in June.
