Boots yesterday (November 19) announced the launch of a “private vitamin B12 injection service” to provide customers with a “convenient way to support their vitamin levels”.
Available in “over 145 stores across the UK” and retailing at £29 per dose, the injection allows “eligible” patients to “manage essential nutrient levels and treat deficiencies”, it said.
According to Boots, the service is designed to help those with “nutritional gaps in their diet” – such as people following “a strict plant-based or vegetarian diet” – as well as “older people” who are more likely to be deficient in the vitamin.

Customers will be eligible for the injection if they “have received a low vitamin B12 result” from a Boots vitamin B12 blood test “in the month prior to the appointment”, the health and beauty giant explained.
And it noted that following this appointment, customers will be signposted to their GP by a Boots healthcare professional “to undergo further testing and determine any underlying causes” if a deficiency is discovered.
“Convenient access”
The injection service also allows “regular administration of the jab” to adults aged 18 and over with a “confirmed diagnosis of a permanent cause of vitamin B12 deficiency from their GP”, Boots said.
Appointments can either be booked online or customers can walk into participating stores, it said, adding that the appointment should take “around 20 minutes”.

Boots superintendent pharmacist Claire Nevinson said that the launch of this service “helps provide customers with convenient access to [the] nutritional support they may need”.
And it is an example of “how people can use Boots as a first port of call for their healthcare needs...right on the high street”, she added.

It comes after Boots Online Doctor announced the launch of a “free 12-month support programme” in October to help patients coming off weight loss treatments “maintain” their results.
And in August, the health and beauty giant launched 13 new at-home testing kits to allow patients to test for a range of health conditions “without needing to see a GP”.
