Can you remember how Boots used to be back in the 1970s? Perhaps you weren’t born then, but the multiple has teamed up with English fashion designer Anya Hindmarch so you can experience it.

The designer has transformed one of her London stores on Pont Street to pay homage to old Boots stores.

C+D visited the pop-up pharmacy and spoke to Boots archivist Sophie Clapp about the shop and what was on display.

It’s fitted out with a raised counter typical of the 1970s, along with vintage style signage, retro tiling, staff wearing white coats and the addition of older items such as the carboys.

The collaboration is to celebrate Boots pharmacy heritage, and you can buy lots of bathroom essentials as well as some luxury, limited-edition accessories inspired by antique pieces from Boots’ archives.

This includes coin purses, card cases, and mini bags in the brand style of Berocca, Band-Aid, Imperial Leather and Carmex, along with special pharmacy items including the Advil and Nurofen products.

There’s also an extensive archival display that features old medicines, vitamins and supplements, as well as a range of products from baby and skincare, to perfumes and other pain relief products such as Boots’ own creation Ibuprofen.

Hindmarch said working with Boots was “a truly iconic collaboration for me” as the multiple “is part of the very fabric of the UK”.

“The chance to play with, and ‘Anya-ise’ everyday toiletry essentials has been the most fun project,” she added.

The shop is open until March 8, and some of the items are available on Anya Hindmarch’s website.
