The Pharmacists’ Defence Association (PDA) and Boots have revealed that trainee pharmacists working at the multiple will see their pay increase from April 1.
The uplift, which applies across England and Northern Ireland, will see trainee pharmacists earn £30,000 a year – equivalent to £15.34 an hour, a joint statement from yesterday said.
This is an increase of between 4% and 6%, depending on which pay zone trainees work in.

While in previous years pay increases have varied between zones, this year’s increase applies “to all zones where trainee pharmacists are employed”, it noted.
“We are committed to ensuring that our pay remains competitive and reflective of the valuable contribution that trainee pharmacists make across all locations,” the PDA and Boots said.
And they added that the pay increase “will be applied centrally from the effective date”.

It comes after the pharmacy union and the multiple revealed last February that Boots trainee pharmacists would see their pay increase by between 5% and 14%, depending on the zone they worked in.
Meanwhile, the PDA announced in September that eligible pharmacists working at Boots would receive a 4% pay award effective from November 1.

It also revealed that all qualified pharmacists who have worked at Boots for over 10 years will now be paid at least £55,650 per year on a full-time equivalent (FTE) basis.
And pharmacist store managers will also see a boost in pay, with the minimum annual salary set to increase to £57,200 FTE for small stores, £60,000 for medium stores and £65,000 for large stores, it added.
