Superdrug expands ‘face-to-face’ weight loss service to 160 stores

The pharmacy multiple and beauty giant has announced the expansion of its “pharmacy-led weight loss service” to over 160 pharmacies in the UK.

Pharmacy consultations will be “available in-store without an appointment”

Superdrug is expanding its “well-established face-to-face weight loss service” to over 160 pharmacies nationwide, it revealed this week.

According to the multiple, this now makes it “the only high street retailer” to offer this service in nurse-led clinics, pharmacies and online.

It follows an initial expansion of its weight loss service to the high street in June 2024 to “over 80 of Superdrug’s health clinics across England, Wales and Scotland”.

Superdrug said the “pharmacy-led” weight loss service – offering Wegovy and Mounjaro – combines “thorough clinical screening with personalised, face-to-face support from pharmacists who will measure height, weight and BMI”.

It will be available to patients who meet the eligibility criteria “following a strict clinical screening process conducted at the pharmacies”, it said, adding that pharmacy consultations are “available in-store without an appointment”.

The multiple also noted that the new service sits alongside Superdrug’s face-to-face nurse-led weight loss clinical service and its Online Doctor, allowing customers to “access weight loss treatment and personalised support in a way that suits them”.

“Safe, accessible and professional service”

Superdrug pharmacy director Craig Watt highlighted that usage of the multiple’s face-to-face weight loss service has grown by 173% “over the last year”.

“As demand for clinically supported weight management continues to grow, giving patients additional options for face-to-face consultations plays an increasingly important role in providing a safe, accessible and professional service,” he said.

It comes after Boots announced last week that it was piloting a private in-store weight loss treatment service in 17 stores across the UK.

Boots chief healthcare officer Jamie Kerruish said at the time that “the launch of our in-store weight loss treatment service alongside our digital offer delivered through Boots Online Doctor means we can now deliver convenient care to people both online or in person”.

Meanwhile, Superdrug revealed this month that it is opening 30 new stores in “large-format destination stores and retail park locations”.
