The Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) has elected Liz Hallett as the interim chair of the Welsh Pharmacy Board.

Hallett will serve until the “inaugural elections” to the three National Pharmacy Advisory Councils in March 2026, it said.

Following this, a new Welsh Pharmacy Advisory Council chair will be “elected by council members”, it added.

According to the RPS, these elections will form part of the “new governance structure” of the future Royal College.

Hallett will “lead the board in its work to champion the profession, support members, and advance pharmacy in Wales until the new Welsh Pharmacy Advisory Council elects its chair” it said.

“Work tirelessly”

Hallett said that she has seen “first-hand” the pressures on workforce, medicines optimisation and service delivery and is “committed to ensuring that the voice of pharmacists is heard at every level of decision-making”.

“We have an opportunity to shape services that meet the needs of patients today and in the future,” she said, adding that she will “work tirelessly” to ensure that the pharmacy workforce is “recognised as essential to the health and wellbeing of our nation”.

Hallet also said that she will “ensure” that the “transformation” to Royal College “is embraced”.

It comes after the RPS appointed Dr Geraldine McCaffrey as the new director for Wales in September.

McCaffrey said at the time that she was “excited to further develop” her “advocacy” for the pharmacy profession in Wales.

“It’s been a privilege to serve as chair of the Welsh Pharmacy Board, and I look forward to working with members, board colleagues and the RPS team to shape our future strategy and realise our commitments,” she added.
