Young Well Pharmacy worker sentenced for stealing £1.3k from till

A Well staff member must fulfil a community order after stealing cash over a five-month period, C+D has learned.

A Well employee was last month sentenced for stealing over a thousand pounds from the pharmacy chain, Northampton Magistrates' Court today (September 2) said.

The court told C+D that Marriya Matin was sentenced last month (August 19) for the offence of theft by employee.

Matin stole cash valuing £1,324.18 belonging to Well Pharmacy and was handed a community order of 100 hours unpaid work, the court added.

Meanwhile, the local police force told C+D that 23-year-old Matin, of Perry Street in Northampton, served customers and helped dispense medication at the pharmacy.

The thefts involved taking money from the till between October 2023 and February 2024, Northamptonshire Police added.

C+D approached Well Pharmacy for comment.

In July, police launched an appeal for information about an incident that saw a charity pot stolen from a Welsh Well Pharmacy branch.

The previous month, a trainee from a Well branch in Norfolk was spared prison after they were found guilty of stealing over a thousand boxes of diazepam in an eight-month period.

And in May, another Well employee at a Northamptonshire branch was ordered to repay thousands of pounds after being caught on CCTV stealing from the till.

The 45-year-old admitted to theft by employee and that she had stolen £4,085 between May 24 and June 19 last year.

It comes as Well Pharmacy announced the appointment of a new chief executive in July as Seb Hobbs is due to step down in September to “spend time” with his wife following a diagnosis.
