The online pharmacy announced today that NHS App users can “now use their existing NHS login details to register with Pharmacy2U and benefit from free delivery of their prescriptions”.

It also said the update would make it “easier for millions of NHS patients to manage their prescriptions” by providing “greater choice and control over how they manage and receive their medication, with access to free tracked delivery, reminders and order tracking”.
Some 15.4 million people used the NHS App in July, up 26% year-on-year, Pharmacy2U added.

It said this included 6.1 million patients who ordered a repeat prescription and half a million who used the app’s prescription tracking service.
Pharmacy2U confirmed that a patient’s GP will still review and authorise medication requests before an electronic prescription is sent to the online pharmacy.
“Familiar, quick and secure”
Pharmacy2U superintendent pharmacist Phil Day said the move “makes using our service feel familiar, quick and secure”.
“Ultimately, this is about giving patients greater choice and control over how they manage their repeat prescriptions, with the reassurance that once their GP has approved their medication, Pharmacy2U can take care of the rest,” he added.

It comes after Pharmacy2U announced earlier this month the appointment of Josh Bottomley as its new CEO.
And it follows NHS England announcing in July the acceleration in rollout of its new AI triage tool that will direct patients to “the most appropriate NHS service”.
