Boots has made its menopause-specific training modules available to its beauty advisors, along with its pharmacists, the multiple has revealed.

This allows customers to speak to staff with “specialist” knowledge to help them “find the right products for them”, Boots said, but it told C+D that the training is not compulsory.

It comes as Boots announced the launch of 35 “new menopause products” last month (April 25), meaning it now offers “almost 400 products” to support women suffering with symptoms.

The multiple offers “a range of free and accessible menopause expertise on the high street” where customers can “speak with a range of team members in store, including pharmacists and Boots Beauty specialists”, it said.

And it also announced that “150 Boots stores across England” will feature “dedicated menopause zones”.

These will be “split out by key signs and symptoms such as hot flushes, vaginal dryness and low energy, helping women find products that can support at every stage of their menopause journey”, it added.

“Expert support”

New products on offer at the multiple include menopause supplements “containing over 22 vitamins”, a “daily cooling spray” and a “hair and nails supplement spray”, it said.

Boots head of positive healthcare Ben Sharpe said that the chain continues “to grow [its] menopause range, carefully selecting products that can really help and making them easy to find in stores”.

This is combined with “expert support” in stores from its “pharmacy and beauty team” and the “wealth of information and advice” on the Boots Health Hub, he added.

Boots previously announced in October that it would train “all 1,400 of its pharmacy technicians to offer cancer support on the high street” after new analysis from Macmillan Cancer Support showed that “tens of thousands of women with cancer under 50 struggle with hormone-related side-effects of cancer treatment such as early menopause”.

“Boots and Macmillan will launch training for pharmacy technicians, who will become Boots Macmillan information technicians” after its completion, the multiple said at the time.

The scheme aims to help pharmacy technicians gain “an understanding of aspects of different cancers and listen to patients’ concerns so they can provide emotional support to help them live well with cancer and signpost to other services as appropriate”, it added.

Meanwhile, Boots launched “training modules for its 4,500 pharmacists” in February 2023 to “provide information on four key areas of women’s health: periods, fertility, pregnancy and menopause”.
