Asda is offering 6,000 free private flu vaccinations nationwide on September 14 to remove “barriers” to getting protected.

The multiple said yesterday that the appointments must be booked in advance on its online booking system and are available across 242 Asda pharmacies on a “first-come, first-served basis”.

“While many people are eligible for a free NHS flu vaccination from the October 1, millions of adults fall outside the eligibility criteria and would usually pay for the service,” it said.

It added that the initiative aims to “make it easier for people to protect themselves against flu before winter arrives”.

According to NHS England figures, there were an average of 2,660 patients per day in a hospital bed with flu in early December 2025 – the highest-ever level for that point in the season.

Asda stressed that vaccination “remains one of the most effective ways to help reduce the risk of catching flu and lessen the severity of symptoms should you become unwell”.

Asda Pharmacy health care services manager Richard Harrison said the service is about “removing barriers and making it easier than ever for people to protect themselves and those around them”.

“We’re expecting strong demand, so we’d encourage anyone interested to book their appointment now,” he added.

It comes after the UK Health and Security Agency revealed earlier this week that almost half of primary school-aged children did not receive a flu vaccine last winter.

And it follows Asda offering a £5 “reward” in July to those who received a private Meningitis B vaccination at one of their pharmacies.
