MedPal AI has expanded its robotic distribution hub to handle “over 100,000” prescriptions per month, the company announced this week.

The facility now has the capacity “to operate 24/7” and can deliver “automated dispensing, order fulfilment and nationwide delivery of prescription and over-the-counter medications”, it said.

The pharmacy premises were expanded to include two units that were previously assets of Universal Pharmacy, following MedPal AI’s takeover of the company’s distance selling pharmacy (DSP) contract in November.

It now covers three units at Swaffham’s Ecotech Innovation Business Park, MedPal AI said, which “represents a tripling of the facility’s footprint”.

The move sees MedPal AI create “one of the UK’s most advanced robotic distribution hubs for pharmaceutical services”, it added.

And it is part of the company’s “strategy to leverage AI and robotics to improve efficiency, reduce costs and expand its market share in the growing UK pharmacy sector”.

“Scalable, technology-driven platform”

Medpal AI chief executive Jason Drummond said acquiring Universal Pharmacy’s assets and expanding MedPal AI’s robotic hub “directly supports [its] vertically integrated model and positions [it] strongly for accelerated growth”.

“This milestone underscores our commitment to building a scalable, technology-driven pharmacy platform that delivers better outcomes for patients, prescribers and the NHS,” he added.

It comes after MedPal AI announced in January that it is using artificial intelligence to “identify” users “who may benefit” from weight loss medications.

The company announced the launch of “direct AI integration” between its consumer health app MedPal and its online pharmacy MedPal Clinic, and said at the time that it believes the move is “a UK-first”.
