Travel health - Case study
CASE STUDY
Mike Bereza, owner of Douglas Pharmacy, Islington, London, and managing director of PGD service PharmaDoctor
"When I started running Douglas Pharmacy five years ago, I realised there were plenty of opportunities for pharmacy to run clinical services. I was particularly interested in travel clinics, as travel health is an expanding category that allows pharmacists to use their many skills.
After researching this area, I teamed up with a nurse, a doctor and another pharmacist and together we formed PharmaDoctor, which offers online and face-to-face training for pharmacists to set up travel clinics.
"PharmaDoctor now has at least 50 pharmacy members who are running independent travel clinics across the country.
"I also run a walk-in travel clinic service at Douglas Pharmacy. As well as giving vaccinations, we provide bespoke medicine bags for patients' travel needs. Patients, particularly those who need to travel at short notice, appreciate this service as the consultation is free and they don't need to make an appointment with their GP."
