Carers Trust launches video on pharmacy support for young adult carers
The Carers Trust has launched a video that shows how community pharmacies can help support young adult carers.
The video – released today (January 31) to mark Young Carers Awareness Day – shows Sussex community pharmacist Penny Woodgate (pictured) speaking about how the profession can support young adult carers with managing medicines. It was funded by manufacturer Rosemont Pharmaceuticals.
Carers Trust said: “Young adult carers often have sole responsibility for medicines. This can involve collecting and giving them, as well as getting help if there are any problems with the medicines.”
There are at least 376,000 young adult carers aged between 16 and 25 in the UK, it added.
James Wood, chief executive of Community Pharmacy Surrey and Sussex – a group of local pharmaceutical committees – said his organisation hopes the video “will help carers across the country ask pharmacists for the help they need, when they have responsibility for medicines”.
