Pharmacies will not be required to complete business continuity planning sections as part of their information governance (IG) requirements this year, PSNC has confirmed.

There are therefore "no significant changes" to the requirements, which pharmacies must complete by March 31, PSNC said.

Contractors will need to show evidence of level two compliance for each of the requirements this year, but are exempt from requirement 9-319, which covers business continuity planning.

PSNC said changes had been made to improve the usability of the IG toolkit, so that any scores and comments entered in last year's assessment will still appear.

Pharmacies will still need to confirm that these have been reviewed and PSNC highlighted that it remained "important to make some comments to support entered scores", either in the comments box or by ticking the relevant evidence box.

According to a C+D poll, 52 per cent of readers have not had enough time to think about information governance this year, with only 21 per cent saying they have updated their procedures since last year's requirements.
