Boots diabetes information service gathers pace
Practice Boots’ diabetes information service, which includes a free information pack and gives support and advice to type 2 diabetes patients and their carers, has made a “big difference” to some patients already, Boots’ director of pharmacy Peter Bainbridge has told C+D.
Boots' diabetes information service – launched last month – has made a "big difference" to some patients already, Boots' director of pharmacy Peter Bainbridge has told C+D.
The service, tailored to give support and advice both to type 2 diabetes patients and those caring for them, entails Boots pharmacists asking patients how pharmacists can help them to manage the condition. Free diabetes information packs containing practical advice and expert help are also being provided where appropriate.

Mr Bainbridge said pharmacists had backed the service because it enabled them to develop their role. And customers had been finding the information pack helpful, he added. "The evidence is anecdotal, but just having that conversation with the pharmacist has made a big difference to the patients because those with diabetes, and many with other long-term conditions, are often very concerned about their health," he told C+D. "Boots recognises that access to quality information, professional support, products and services is essential for empowering and motivating people to feel confident and in control of their own health, as well as the health of their loved ones," he said. |
And Mr Bainbridge added that the service had been welcomed by local GPs. "The GPs I've spoken to think it's a really good idea, because they've seen it as pharmacy working in a really complementary way with GPs."
