Ability to change should be at heart of pharmacy business, Numark says

Business Pharmacy contractors must accept the need to continually review and adapt their business plans to deliver sustainability, Numark's conference in Vietnam has been told.

Pharmacy contractors must accept the need to continually review and adapt their business plans to deliver sustainability, Numark has said.

Change should be routine for pharmacy businesses and pharmacists need to work with their teams to deliver this, Numark representatives and other speakers at the group's conference in Vietnam last week (April 22) said.

Numark commercial director Raj Nutan told delegates they needed a "mindset shift" towards continual change. "The way community pharmacy operates needs to continually change to be able to sustain a profitable revenue stream," he said.

Engaging the pharmacy team with change was essential, he said. Numark marketing director Lynne Armstrong reiterated the point. "You might own the business yourself but you're not in business by yourself," Ms Armstrong said.

She asked delegates to consider honestly whether their teams were "part of your business or just a spare pair of hands".

Quantum Pharmaceuticals group commercial director Brian Fisher agreed. "People should expect change in your organisation. People should become bored and restless when change and innovation is missing from their day," he said, adding: "Complacency kills."

Mr Fisher advised contractors to find 100 things to make 1 per cent better, rather than trying to make one thing 100 per cent better. "Little things mean a lot," he said.
