Pharmacy staff ‘terrified’ by double robberies from masked man

Police Scotland released the footage after all leads relating to a man who robbed the same West Lothian pharmacy twice within a year were exhauseted

Scottish police have released CCTV footage of a man who "terrified" staff during two robberies of the same pharmacy in West Lothian.

The footage, released on Tuesday (October 7) showed a man robbing a pharmacy, which did not want to be named, at around 10am on June 14. Scottish police said they also wanted to speak to the individual in connection with a separate robbery in the same pharmacy the previous year.

The pharmacy manager told C+D she had been "terrified" during the first incident in September 2013, when the "agitated" man entered the pharmacy wearing a balaclava. He demanded money from the till before asking for drugs and, once he was given medicines from the controlled drugs cabinet, ran out of the pharmacy, she said.

She had felt "even worse" during the second robbery nine months later, and she said her shock was heightened when she recognised it was the same man from the previous incident. It was "very frustrating" that the robber had not yet been caught, she added.

But she was "glad" that police had released footage of the man, and hoped that this would lead to a member of the public recognising him.

The robberies were the only two incidents of their kind that the pharmacy had experienced since it opened five years ago, she added.

Police Scotland said officers had been making "extensive enquiries" to track down who was responsible for the robberies. It was "of particular concern" that the same pharmacy had been targeted twice, and they had only released the images because all other lines of enquiry had been exhausted.

It was also worrying that a "significant amount" of medicines had been taken and were now in the "wrong hands", said police, who urged anyone who recognised the man from the footage or had any further information to contact them immediately.

Police described the individual as white, 5'7", with short, dark hair, a Scottish accent and "medium to heavy build".

Anyone with any information relating to the burglaries should contact Police Scotland on 101, or phone Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
