MHRA seizes £4,000 worth of unlicensed erectile dysfunction drugs
43-year-old Jonathan French of Ramsgate was handed a prison sentence for selling the drugs to friends
A Kent man who sold unlicensed erectile dysfunction drugs to his friends has received a four-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, the MHRA announced yesterday (February 10).
Forty-three-year-old Jonathan French of Spencer Square, Ramsgate had admitted to "selling regular amounts to friends and acquaintances", the MHRA said. Mr French was ordered to serve 100 hours of community service at his sentencing at Southwark Crown Court on Monday (February 9).
MHRA officers seized more than 2,600 individual doses of unlicensed medicines, worth more than £4,000, from Mr French. The seizure formed part of a long-running investigation, and MHRA head of enforcement Alastair Jeffrey said the organisation would "continue to seek out and prosecute people who recklessly endanger public health by selling illegal unlicensed medicines".
Last week, the medicines watchdog warned the public about the “significant risk” of taking an unlicensed blood product that was mis-sold as a cancer cure.
