Christie & Co announced this week (June 28) that it has been instructed to sell Islay Pharmacy on the Isle of Islay and Inveraray Pharmacy in Argyll.

 

The two pharmacies located on the west coast of Scotland “both benefit from a high influx of tourists and visitors”, it said.

Islay Pharmacy is on the market with an asking price of £600,000 and Inveraray Pharmacy is on the market with an asking price of £275,000, it added. 

 

Both pharmacies are owned by Sanjay Majhu, who acquired Inveraray Pharmacy in 2016 and Islay Pharmacy in 2018, according to the broker.

Islay Pharmacy, a “quaint community pharmacy” located on Main Street Bowmore, dispenses an average of 3,600 NHS items per month and “single-handedly serves the island’s population of circa 3,200 residents”, Christie & Co said.

 

Inveraray Pharmacy dispenses an average of 1,694 NHS items per month and is “ideally located on the main street in the traditional county town of Inveraray”, Argyll, it added.

 

The town is “known to be a tourist hotspot” for both UK and international visitors with attractions such as Inveraray Castle and the Georgian Inveraray Jail, it said.

“Both pharmacies are excellent lifestyle opportunities for owner-pharmacists to work and live in stunning parts of rural Scotland”, director of medical at Christie & Co Karl Clezy, who is handling the sales, said.

 

He added that Inveraray “is a popular village on Loch Fyne for visitors looking to spend a day enjoying the scenery and grabbing a bite to eat”, while Islay is “well-known for its famous whisky distilleries that attract whisky enthusiasts from all over the world”.

 

“Both pharmacies are trading well, helping to support the healthcare needs of their communities,” Mr Clezy said.

This comes as multiple pharmacies have been sold throughout the UK, including a community pharmacy in North London that was “beautifully refitted” and recently sold after only four weeks on the market.

 

Earlier this month, a 100-hour community pharmacy in South Yorkshire was sold for a “premium price” thanks to its high dispensing volumes.

 

And Christie & Co also announced earlier this month that a pharmacy in Wales had been put on the market with a £1.5 million asking price.
