The 15-minute treatment – available from this month – is “up to 100% effective” at removing headlice in one go, the manufacturer claimed.
The new formula works by suffocating and dehydrating headlice using a “hypertonic complex” called osmolone, it added.
There is “no need to use traditional shampoo after[wards]” as the product washes the hair, as well as conditions it to ease lice combing, Perrigo continued.
“It is kind to skin, and as it is a non-pesticide, headlice are unlikely to develop a resistance to its ingredients,” said Perrigo, which added that each bottle can treat up to four infestations.
“We are always looking to introduce innovation to the category,” said Perrigo senior marketing director Holly Turner.
The launch will be supported in August and September with a TV campaign, new website, and online advertising.
One 200ml bottle of Lyclear Treatment Shampoo retails at £14.99.
