ASA overturns complaints about Lloydspharmacy blood pressure TV ad
The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has overturned complaints about a Lloydspharmacy TV ad campaign for blood pressure monitors. The complaints against Lloydspharmacy arose because the ad's voiceover claimed that checking your blood pressure regularly at home "can help control it". The issue was that simply monitoring your blood pressure does not help control it.The ASA ruled that the complaint was unjustified and that the viewers would not infer from it that the device was suitable for self-diagnosis or control of a medical condition. The ASA said: "We considered that most viewers would interpret the phrase [in the voiceover] 'But, you can help to control it by keeping a regular check on it at home', as a claim that the product could help to monitor BP levels and that users could then seek the appropriate medical advice on ways on which to control BP if they believed it necessary."Lloydspharmacy claimed they had worked closely with the Department of Health and the British Hypertension Society on the ad to help raise awareness of knowing your blood pressure. For the full judgement click here
