Boots reviews employee pay and benefits
Boots has reviewed its rates of pay and benefit packages and is set to discuss "some changes to premium rates" with certain employees.
A statement from the multiple came after the PDA Union raised concerns about information received by some Boots employees on pay and benefits.
Boots said the changes would affect only a "valuable minority of around 15 per cent" of employees.
The changes had taken place to ensure the health and beauty giant was "market competitive" and "to reward our best colleagues and pharmacists for their commitment to customer care", Boots said.
"We will be having a conversation with each of these colleagues over the coming weeks in a effort to find the most practical solution," a Boots spokesperson told C+D.
The PDA Union claimed the changes could have a "fundamental impact" on some employees.
The PDA Union said in a statement that although some Boots pharmacists received double pay for Sunday working, the changes could see them paid 1.5 times their normal pay for this work.
Pharmacists who regularly worked Sundays, or only worked on this day, would "lose out substantially", the PDA warned.
Bank Holiday working, night working and evening premiums could also be affected, it said.
Boots did not comment on the specifics outlined by the PDA, but stressed: "This is an important programme of change that covers a number of streams, including how we get the best people in the best place at the best time for our customers and patients."
