Brands set for growth after consumer awards

Healthcare and hygiene brands including Nuromol, Sensodyne and Bodyform could see double-digit growth following victories in awards voted for by over 9,000 consumers.

Winners in the 2012 Product of the Year survey, carried out by TNS Research International, included Strepsils Sore Throat & Cough Lozenges and Wartner Verruca and Wart Removal Pen.

"Multi-tasking" pharmacy-only analgesic Nuromol (Healthcare Product of the Year) gained particular praise from the awards management, as did "new takes on established and well-loved brands" such as Sensodyne Repair & Protect (Toothpaste Product of the Year).

The awards management claims that winners see an average 10 to 15 per cent year-on-year sales increase.

Product of the Year CEO Mike Nolan commended brands for innovating despite the economic climate. He added: "This year's winners reflect the growing demand for multi-tasking products – doing one job is no longer enough, customers want more bang for their buck." Medicated Skin and Hair Treatment Product of the Year: Wartner Verruca and Wart Removal Pen

Launched in May last year, the clinically proven trichloroacetic acid gel pen provides visible results within the first week, marketer Omega Pharma says.

Research shows the majority of wart and verruca sufferers consult a pharmacist and buy treatments without prescription, marketing manager Louise White adds.

"The Product of the Year seal of approval gives added assurance pharmacists are recommending an effective treatment."

Cough, Cold and Allergy Product of the Year: Strepsils Sore Throat & Cough Lozenges

The best-selling sore throat relief brand (Nielsen, MAT value sales to January 7, 2012) launched its dual-action lozenge in September, supported by a £4.5 million promotional campaign.

The product was developed following research that showed one in three adults suffer from a sore throat and cough simultaneously, but two thirds did not like to use liquid cough medicines when outside the home, manufacturer Reckitt Benckiser says. Feminine Care Product of the Year: Bodyform Ultra towels

Bodyform Ultra towels are currently being advertised on national TV with the Product of the Year logo, and products carrying the logo will appear in shops next month.
