An in-pharmacy bone density screening session at Carter Chemist, in Northwood, Middlesex, has found that 13 per cent of those screened were at high risk of fracture. Local customers were screened during pre-booked appointments as part of the trial.Carter Chemist pharmacist and principal Hatul Shah said: “Osteoporosis is known as the hidden condition or silent epidemic and there is something of an awareness gap in the healthcare field, so it was good to focus on this as an area of concern."The trial was held in conjunction with independent health and fitness assessment specialist Mobile Screening Services and funded by Principle Healthcare, producers of calcium supplement BioCalth.Principle Healthcare marketing director Fiona Wiseman said it was likely the trial of in-pharmacy screening would be extended, and invited expressions of interest from other pharmacy companies.“The day went very well and the actual screening very smoothly," Mr Shah said. "The patients were very happy with the way the scans were conducted and the results portrayed.”
