Double wins for Mayberry and Day Lewis at C+D Awards 2014

C+D Awards The winners of the seventh annual C+D Awards celebrated at a gala ceremony and dinner last night (June 12), where two independent pharmacy chains went home with two trophies each

Two independent pharmacy chains went home with two trophies each at the seventh annual C+D Awards last night.

Almost 600 guests, including 64 finalists, joined the C+D team on the night, held in association with Actavis, and watched as the 12 winners were announced at central London venue The Brewery.

Mayberry Pharmacy in south Wales picked up C+D Public Health Initiative of the Year for its blood pressure check service in pubs. The chain's central dispensing team won Pharmacy Team of the Year for their MediPack medicines adherence initiative and for implementing the first hub-and-spoke dispensing model in the country.

The judges praised Mayberry's blood pressure campaign as a "very imaginative opportunity to access populations that are hardest to reach" and said the central dispensing team had "demonstrated all the hallmarks of a great team".

Day Lewis's training academy won Business Initiative of the Year and its Merstham branch's Leanne Brady took home the trophy for Pharmacy Assistant of the Year.

Other winners on the night included Roisin Breen of Bradleys Pharmacy in Northern Ireland, who was crowned Community Pharmacist of the Year for her work promoting public health in Omagh.

Hampshire's Integro Pharmacy won Clinical Service of the Year for its health access service for the local Nepalese population, while Manager of the Year went to Amish Patel, of Hodgson Pharmacy in Longfield, Kent.

C+D editor Jennifer Richardson told the audience that it was "wonderful" to see so many pharmacists "taking time out to celebrate a job well done".

"Community pharmacists and their teams have a reputation for being reluctant to shout about their incredible achievements. You may think it's all in a day's work, but what you do makes a huge impact on the communities you serve," she told attendees.

Read more about the winners, runners-up and other finalists in a special pull-out section in next week's issue of C+D (June 21).
