The Hub pharmacy has added a further six branches from the Halifax area to its portfolio.

The acquisition of the six pharmacies, previously owned by Living Care Pharmacy, means the Hub pharmacy now operate 17 branches in the north of England.

Over the next six months, the Hub pharmacy will invest “substantial funds” to refurbish the sites, rebrand them and update their IT systems, it said.

Five of the pharmacies are located in Halifax, with the sixth in a nearby village. The company confirmed that all staff  would be retained, with the likelihood of more jobs being created in the future.

Hub pharmacy CEO Steve Jeffers said the company would use its expertise to develop a wider range of pharmacy services for patients in Halifax.

The Hub pharmacy and Living Care Pharmacy will also establish a joint professional services and buying group called ‘Total Independent Pharmacy Services’ and will invite other independent pharmacies in the north of England to join.

“Given the funding pressures on community pharmacy, it is essential that independent pharmacy groups work together,” Mr Jeffers added.

The former MedicX owners retained nine pharmacies when they sold the 21-strong chain last June, and bought a further two branches in that month and January.
