Licensed vitamin D drops for under-5s
Manufacturer Internis Pharmaceuticals has launched a vitamin D supplement for young children and pregnant women.
Fultium-D3 drops – which launched last month – are the first MHRA-licensed prescription-only product to treat vitamin D deficiency in pregnant and breastfeeding women as well as children under five, the manufacturer claimed. The drops contained a “new and improved” colecalciferol formulation, it said.
Fifty-nine per cent of more than 1,000 mothers surveyed by website Mumsnet on behalf of Internis had said they received “no information at all” about vitamin D deficiency, it said. Eighty-five per cent of mothers who were aware of the benefits of vitamin D gave it to their child without getting a prescription, Internis added.
A 25ml bottle of Fultium-D3 drops has an NHS price of £10.70.
