Pharmacists see falling and stagnant salaries
Half of pharmacists have seen their wages fall in the past year, with a further 40 per cent suffering pay freezes, a C+D survey has found.
In the website poll run ahead of the C+D Salary Survey 2012, only 12 per cent of those who responded had received a pay rise in the past 12 months. The finding suggests that pay rises could be becoming rarer – the C+D Salary Survey 2011 found that 55 per cent of employee pharmacists had received a pay rise in the previous 12 months.
"We have noticed an increase in the number of pharmacists contacting us who are struggling to find work" Diane Leicester, Pharmacist Support |

Charity Pharmacist Support said it was "surprised" by the latest results, but told C+D it was aware that employment was becoming increasingly scarce. "Although we have not fielded many calls specifically about pay, what we have noticed is an increase in the number of pharmacists contacting us who are struggling to find work, some of whom are investigating working as technicians as a short-term alternative," said charity manager Diane Leicester. Ms Leicester questioned if the pay cuts were as a result of locums or employees working fewer hours. |
The C+D Salary Survey 2012 aims to uncover the full truth about pay, promotions, stress and job satisfaction. C+D's deputy editor Jennifer Richardson urged: "We need as many readers as possible to take part in the Salary Survey 2012 to make it as comprehensive and powerful a resource as it can be."
