RPS and Woman's Weekly set out to identify pharmacy's 'unsung heroes'
I Love My Pharmacist competition will praise those who have "gone the extra mile" for their patients
The Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) has partnered with lifestyle magazine Woman's Weekly to celebrate the "unsung heroes" of community pharmacy. The I Love My Pharmacist competition, which launched yesterday (June 30), aimed to highlight the work of pharmacists who have "gone the extra mile" to help their patients, the RPS said. The RPS would like pharmacists to send their stories to it for a chance to be featured in the magazine. Woman's Weekly readers will then vote for their favourite story from a shortlist of five and the winning pharmacy will receive a commemorative plaque and a visit from a "surprise guest", the RPS said. The closing date for entries is July 21. The voting will be launched in Woman's Weekly in September and the winner will be announced in October. Woman's Weekly was the RPS's "ideal media partner" as its target readership of women aged 45 and over were regular users of pharmacies, said RPS head of communications Neal Patel. The competition was an opportunity for the society to meet its objective of informing the public about the work the sector does by "rooting out" pharmacists who made a difference to the lives of their patients, he told C+D. "This is an opportunity to let the profession shine and show readers of Woman's Weekly how their pharmacist could help them. I'm sure there will be stiff competition as there are so many pharmacists out there doing great work," Mr Patel added. Pharmacists wishing to take part in the competition should visit the RPS's website for more information on how to enter.
