C+D’s news editor wins award recognising 'rising stars' in journalism

C+D’s news editor Costanza Potter has been named one of the 30 most “exciting rising stars” in the UK media landscape by the Professional Publishers Association (PPA).

The prestigious PPA Next Gen Awards, rebranded this year from the organisation's 30 Under 30 Awards, revealed its “class of 2023” on Monday (September 4).

The awards recognise up-and-coming talent within UK journalism and publishing – with the list of 30 “exciting rising stars” chosen by an “experienced panel of judges from across the special interest media sector”, according to the PPA.

The organisation, which supports specialist media businesses, said Ms Potter was selected as one of the winners from “a huge number” of entrants, noting that its judges were extremely “impressed with the calibre of entries” this year.

Since joining C+D as its news editor in December, Ms Potter has led her team to break hard-hitting stories including Lloydspharmacy’s withdrawal from Sainsbury’s supermarkets, as well as personally covering the results of the C+D Salary Survey 2022 and hosting the latest series of the publication’s A Coffee With… podcast.

The PPA said it was “enormously encouraging to know that we have so many superstars leading and shaping the future of our vibrant and exciting sector”.

Ms Potter will join the other recipients of the PPA Next Gen Awards at a prize-giving ceremony on October 12.

It comes as the C+D Awards 2023 are due to take place tonight (September 6) at The Brewery in central London, honouring winners across 14 categories spanning the community pharmacy sector.

“Small but mighty team”

Ms Potter said: “I'm delighted to have won this award for the news we have delivered at C+D and, really, this honour is a real testament to the talent of the whole team.

“I've no doubt my small but mighty team will soon be adding more gongs to the C+D trophy cabinet, so watch this space!”

Meanwhile, C+D’s editor Beth Kennedy said she was "absolutely thrilled" that Ms Potter's work had been recognised by the PPA’s judges.

“To be chosen as one of the winners of such a prestigious award is a fantastic achievement, and is proof of Costanza’s talent in leading C+D’s bold and tenacious news journalists,” she added.

In January, C+D took home two prizes at the 12th annual Avicenna Media Awards, picking up trophies in the Newcomer of the Year and Best Support for Independent Pharmacists categories.
