We helped vulnerable patients get their COVID-19 vaccinations

The Central Health Solutions team supported people who were reluctant or found it difficult to get their COVID-19 vaccinations. They worked with City of Wolverhampton Council and St John Ambulance, setting up clinics in areas with low vaccination rates, with providers who support homeless people, and in refugee and migrant centres.

The team talked to and supported many homeless people and those seeking refuge in Wolverhampton to be vaccinated in venues they felt comfortable in, allowing them the time to discuss any concerns with a pharmacist. Central Health have been working with City of Wolverhampton Council to provide roving Covid-19 vaccination clinics.

Central Health sub-contracted local pharmacists from the nearby Milan Pharmacy to provide the clinic sessions. The project recently saw the team working with St John Ambulance, using the ambulance in town centres, parks, markets and football grounds to provide vaccinations. They provided a risk assessment and quality assessment at each centre, worked with staff there to help promote sessions, and talked to service users about the importance of being protected. Service users felt happier being vaccinated in a venue they were comfortable in, with no queues and had time to spend with the pharmacist to discuss any concerns.

In three months, the team vaccinated 499 people. Of those vaccinated, 22% (110) were first doses. Of almost 2,000 people the team has vaccinated to date, over half were from an ethnic minority background, 25% were under 30 years of age and another 25% were over 60 years old.
